Safe from the Storm

Dec 2nd, 3rd & 4th, we were plummeted with an incredible storm. Most of the damaged occurred Late Sunday throughout Monday. We had winds sustained at apx. 65 mph for more than 8 hrs straight. The record gust was an amazing 147 mph. While we only received a little over 2 inches of rain in 24hrs other communities in the Northwest were destroyed by floods.

Most of our surrounding area was without power for only 4 days some outlined areas are still without. We were also without phone service (including 911) for apx. 4 days.

The damage is substantial. Every house of business has either roof or siding damage if not totally flattened. Hundreds of homes were damaged from trees falling on them. We were lucky, besides a BIG mess in yard, we only lost 2 cedar shake on the house. Not Bad. Our forests are also flattened, there are sections that look like they have been freshly clear-cutted.

My husband was our hero. He kept our food fresh and our home warm with this little generator someone gave him cause they couldn't get it working right. He kept his Moms food fresh, fixed 2 other generators and helped clear some trees. What a guy!

Seeing our community pull together and help each other stay safe and recover from this storm has shown me a new appreciation for living in Clatsop County. I knew my hubby wasn't the only reason I have been here over 12 years. :)
